Oral Presentation:

Each student will do a five-minute oral presentation in front of the class as part of your preparation for the second essay. Search NC LIVE and choose one article that you can use in your second research-supported argument.

1. Identify title, author, source, and date of publication. Summarize the article in 1-2 minutes. What is the major argument? Do this summary just as you have been doing all semester.

2. In 2-3 minutes explain the points in the article with which you agree and/or disagree. In order to do this, you will need to use an article that professes some opinion, not a news article. What assumptions does the author make? What evidence does the author use for support? How do you plan to use this article in your essay? Your presentation should include a statement of your own position on the issue you have chosen to write about (your thesis).

3. We will take a brief period after each presentation during which your instructor (and any students who wish to) will ask a question or two.

Do NOT present an essay we have discussed in class, nor an essay from the book. The point is to share your research with other students.

You do not need to turn in a written version of your presentation; however, you must turn in a 3x5 card with the Works Cited page entry for the article.

If you do not make an oral presentation, you get a 0 (out of 30 points) for the presentation grade. The presentation represents 5% of your final grade in this course.
