BUS 204 PRINCIPLES OF BUSINESS
Required Textbook: Contemporary Business by Boone and Kurtz
Course Description:
This course is aimed at exposing the student to basic
rudimentary fundamentals of business.
There is no prerequisite, as it is entirely introductory. The student is made aware of what business
is, its history and who the manager is.
We shall then explore the ethics and responsibilities expected of business
organizations, to different forms of business and strategies to making them
successful. We shall stress the
important of empowerment, teamwork and communications, among other things, and
explore the functions of management and resources found in organizations we
shall conclude with an overview of marketing principles, emerging advances in
technology as they affect management, and finally the problems and prospects
the manager will face as he marches on in the new millennium.
EVALUATION
TECHNIQUES:
Final course grade will be a combination of homework,
quizzes, participation and contributions at class discussions, and final exams.
GRADING SYSTEMS:
Assignments, quizzes, and class participation = 90%, final
exam 10%, Total 100%.

100-80% =
A, 79-70% = B, 69-60% = C, 59-50% =D, BELOW 49% = F
PROJECT
As soon as “drop and add” is
over, and the class strength (Number) is confirmed. Groups may be formed. The groups will work on cases as assigned by
the class professor, and will present their findings as a group towards the
last 30 minutes of the class period.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
This is
mandatory role will be taken each time we meet, and will be part of the grade
(the 90%). Student coming 15 minutes after the class had started may be turned
back to avoid distracting both the professor and the students too.
LATE ASSIGNMENT:
Assignments
should be viewed seriously and submitted on time there will be no make-up
tests.
CONCLUSION:
I look
forward to seeing everybody in class, ready and prepared to work hard. The course is not going to be easy. It will
take a lot of work from you (and mostly me), but in the end you will be happy
you did. Come in, it’s going to be fun.
