COURSE DESCRIPTION:

A study of the activities designed to provide for and coordinate the Human Resources needs of an organization.  Topics include, Legal requirements, Job Analysis, Planning, Recruiting, Maintaining and Developing, Compensation Benefits, Employee Assistance and Union/Labor Relations.  Organization Development and Information Systems.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:


1.      Provide students the foundation necessary to embark on a study and practice of Human Resources Management.

2.      Help students understand both theory and practice of Human Resources Management.

3.      Help students understand Human Resources Management terminology via study of definition of key terms and concepts.

4.      Understand the various functions of Human Resources Management.

5.      Recognize and understand the significance of Human Resources Management to the total organization.

1.      Introduction to Human Resources Management and the legal framework.

2.      Staffing the organization:  Job Analysis and Design, Human Resources Planning, Recruitment, and Selection.

3.      Training and Developing Employees:  Orientation and Training, Management and Organizational Development, Performance Appraisal and Career Benefits.

4.      Compensating Employees:  Reward Systems, Base Wage and Salary Systems, Incentive Pay and Employee Benefits.

5.      Understanding Unions:  Structure of Unions, Collective Bargaining Process and Discipline and Grievance Handling.
