BUS 498 SEMINAR IN BUSINESS

REQUIRED TEXT:

Management Building Competitive Advantage,  Thomas S. Batemen and Scott A. Shell,

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This seminar class is not limited to any topics or scope.  It is supposed to be broad based, covering all known areas of Business Administration.  Students come with their experience gathered from all spheres of working life to look maturely at business problems that will arise in cases that will be discussed in the class.  Strictly speaking discussions will come from anywhere.  It is therefore safe to say that the course has no textbooks as such – all Business Administration texts have relevance here. Oral and written reports are assigned from time to time.  At the end of the semester each student will be required to present a written thesis (term paper) of any topic of his/her choice, that will effect his/her experience at work. The paper will be a contribution to the knowledge of Business Administration.

EVALUATION TECHNIQUES:

Final course grade will be a combination of homework, quizzes, participation and contributions at class discussions, and final exams.

PROJECT:

As soon as  “drop and add” is over and the class strength (number) is confirmed, groups may be formed.  The groups will work on cases as assigned by the class professor, and will present their findings as a group towards the last 30 minutes of the class period.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

This is mandatory.  Role will be taken each time we meet, and will be part of the grade (the 90%).  Students who come 15 minutes late to class may be turned back to avoid distracting both the professor and students.

LATE ASSIGNMENTS:

Assignments should be viewed seriously and submitted on time.  There will be no make up tests.

CONCLUSION:

I look forward to seeing everybody in class, ready and prepared to work hard.  The course is not going to be easy, although it is behavioral and not quantitative. It will take a lot of work from you ( and mostly me), but in the end you will be happy you did.  Come in for some fun.
